KiloVault HLX Tips And FAQ

Is it good to insulate the KiloVault battery?
It’s the same with any type of battery. Because batteries heat up when they charge, for those who insulate the field they are in, it would retain the heat better and the batteries will keep warmer. But be certain to take away the insulation in the sizzling months, as overheated batteries will have a shorter life.

What is the best operating and storage temperature for the KiloVault?
The optimal temperature range general is 59 – 95°F (15 – 35°C).  Full working temperatures should be greater than 32°F (O°C) and less than 133°F (45°C). Charging the battery below 32°F (0°C) will potentially damage it.

What are the recommended charge controller/inverter settings?
We extremely advocate setting the Bulk/Absorb voltage to *14.0V* for a 12V system (*28.0V* for 24V system, *56.0V* for 48V), float voltage of 13.8V (27.6V for 24V, 55.2V for 48V). Higher settings will cut back the *life* of the batteries. For the inverter low voltage cut-off we strongly advocate 12.0V *or increased* (24.0V, for 24V methods, 48.0V for 48V programs). Limit the duration of the take up voltage interval to 2 minutes if the charger is greater than 100A, otherwise set to 5 minutes.

Are there any issues when wiring the batteries in parallel?
Yes – for the HLX series batteries, the utmost configuration is 4 parallel strings of 4 sequence batteries (16).  In addition, when adding one other parallel row of batteries to an current one, it is important to maintain all parallel sequence strings within 0.2V of each other. Before including a new row of batteries to an current one, charge all batteries to 100% first.

For the CHLX series batteries, a most of 4 batteries can be used in sequence or parallel, however NOT both.  The CHLX are programmed so that when they’re in parallel or collection if one will get cold enough to start heating, all of the CHLX in sequence or parallel will start heating.  This is to prevent widely totally different energy draws and states of charge in the battery financial institution when some are heating and can’t charge, whereas others are warm enough to charge.  As the communication between the CHLX occurs through the facility cables, if related this manner, this communication cannot take place.

Can I mix and match models or brands?
No – this is not good observe with any battery bank.

Should I do an equalization charge on the batteries?
No- much like AGM batteries, an equalization charge might injury them by overcharging them.

Are the batteries shipped fully charged, or do I need to charge them?

No – shipping pointers do not enable deep cycle batteries to be absolutely charged throughout shipment.  **Before you put the batteries into operation they must ALL be charged to exactly the identical voltage (select a voltage between 14.0-14.4, V however make certain they are *ALL* the same).  This will ensure you start with an excellent charge throughout the battery bank.  Suggested battery charger (cables not included with this charger but are available – use merchandise code ALTCC-6AWG-60RB).  We do NOT recommend utilizing the Iota IQ-LIFE PO Smart Charger accessory for use with KiloVault batteries as a result of the charge voltage is simply too high.

Can I do a constant trickle charge on the batteries?
Storing the batteries with a constant small trickle charge just isn’t recommended. Unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries self-consume power at such a low price (0.020 amps or about 6 Watt-hours/day), the battery could be easily over-charged if put on a trickle charger. Over-charging the battery triggers the over-charge safety – shutting it down till the voltage goes down sufficient by itself. Once that occurs the trickle charger would rapidly raise the voltage up too high as soon as once more. As a consequence, the constant cycling of this circuitry will shorten the life of the complete battery.

Is it dangerous to overcharge or over-discharge the battery?
Yes, this will decrease the life of the battery. It’s really helpful to never discharge or charge the battery to the purpose where it has to shut down to protect itself.

Customer Reviews

Kilovault Battery Reviews – I’ve been working my new system with the KiloVault 3600 HLX for 2 weeks and it really works fantastic. I’ve watched it put out 168 amps with no problem and only a couple tenths drop in voltage while doing it after which immediately returns to the traditional 13. 3 volts.

I have seen it charge very quickly at 68 amps from my solar array. The solely issue I’ve had is that the BMS will put this battery on standby when my PV enter matches the load on the battery… all the system “pauses” causing the inverter to shut off, the charge controller goes to rest, or to alarm and the 12-volt system goes dead for a couple of seconds… Be advised the battery can go on standby…
