KiloVault HLX Tips And FAQ
Is it good to insulate the KiloVault battery?
It’s the identical with any type of battery. Because batteries heat up once they charge, should you insulate the box they’re in, it’ll retain the heat higher and the batteries will stay hotter. But be sure to take away the insulation within the hot months, as overheated batteries could have a shorter life.
What is the best working and storage temperature for the KiloVault?
The optimal temperature range total is 59 – 95°F (15 – 35°C). Full operating temperatures must be greater than 32°F (O°C) and less than 133°F (45°C). Charging the battery below 32°F (0°C) will potentially injury it.
What are the really helpful charge controller/inverter settings?
We highly recommend setting the Bulk/Absorb voltage to *14.0V* for a 12V system (*28.0V* for 24V system, *56.0V* for 48V), float voltage of 13.8V (27.6V for 24V, 55.2V for 48V). Higher settings will scale back the *life* of the batteries. For the inverter low voltage cut-off we strongly advocate 12.0V *or increased* (24.0V, for 24V techniques, 48.0V for 48V methods). Limit the duration of the take in voltage interval to 2 minutes if the charger is more than 100A, in any other case set to five minutes.
Are there any considerations when wiring the batteries in parallel?
Yes – for the HLX sequence batteries, the maximum configuration is 4 parallel strings of 4 series batteries (16). In addition, when adding another parallel row of batteries to an current one, you will need to maintain all parallel series strings within 0.2V of one another. Before including a new row of batteries to an present one, charge all batteries to 100% first.
For the CHLX collection batteries, a maximum of 4 batteries can be utilized in series or parallel, however NOT each. The CHLX are programmed in order that when they’re in parallel or sequence if one gets cold enough to start out heating, the entire CHLX in series or parallel will start heating. This is to prevent widely different energy attracts and states of charge within the battery financial institution when some are heating and can’t charge, while others are heat enough to charge. As the communication between the CHLX occurs via the ability cables, if connected this manner, this communication can not happen.
Can I combine and match models or brands?
No – this isn’t good apply with any battery financial institution.
Should I do an equalization charge on the batteries?
No- very like AGM batteries, an equalization charge could damage them by overcharging them.
Are the batteries shipped absolutely charged, or do I must charge them?
No – transport pointers do not permit deep cycle batteries to be absolutely charged throughout cargo. **Before you put the batteries into operation they must ALL be charged to precisely the same voltage (choose a voltage between 14.0-14.4, V but be sure they are *ALL* the same). This will ensure you begin with an excellent charge throughout the battery financial institution. Suggested battery charger (cables not included with this charger however are available – use item code ALTCC-6AWG-60RB). We do NOT counsel using the Iota IQ-LIFE PO Smart Charger accessory for use with KiloVault batteries because the charge voltage is simply too high.
Can I do a relentless trickle charge on the batteries?
Storing the batteries with a constant small trickle charge will not be advisable. Unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries self-consume vitality at such a low fee (0.020 amps or about 6 Watt-hours/day), the battery will be easily over-charged if placed on a trickle charger. Over-charging the battery triggers the over-charge safety – shutting it down till the voltage goes down sufficient by itself. Once that occurs the trickle charger would rapidly raise the voltage up too high as soon as once more. As a consequence, the fixed biking of this circuitry will shorten the lifetime of all the battery.
Is it bad to overcharge or over-discharge the battery?
Yes, this may decrease the lifetime of the battery. It’s recommended to never discharge or charge the battery to the purpose the place it has to close down to protect itself.

Customer Reviews
Kilovault Battery – I’ve been working my new system with the KiloVault 3600 HLX for two weeks and it works unbelievable. I’ve watched it put out 168 amps with no problem and solely a couple tenths drop in voltage whereas doing it and then immediately returns to the conventional 13. 3 volts.
I have seen it charge very quickly at 68 amps from my photovoltaic array. The only problem I have had is that the BMS will put this battery on standby when my PV enter matches the load on the battery… the complete system “pauses” inflicting the inverter to shut off, the charge controller goes to relaxation, or to alarm and the 12-volt system goes useless for a few seconds… Be advised the battery can go on standby…
